The evolution of plants has resulted in widely varying levels of complexity, from the earliest algal mats, through bryophytes, lycopods, and ferns, to the complex gymnosperms and angiosperms of today. While many of the groups which appeared earlier continue to thrive, as exemplified by algal dominance in marine environments, more recently derived groups have also displaced previously ecologically dominant ones, e.g. the ascendance of flowering plants over gymnosperms in terrestrial environments.[6]:498
Evidence for the appearance of the first land plants occurs in the Ordovician, around 450 million years ago, in the form of fossil spores.[7]Land plants began to diversify in the Late Silurian, from around 430 million years ago, and the results of their diversification are displayed in remarkable detail in an early Devonian fossil assemblage from the Rhynie chert. This chert, formed in volcanic hot springs, preserved several species of early plants in cellular detail by petrification.[8]
By the middle of the Devonian, many of the features recognised in plants today were present, including roots and leaves. Late Devonian free-sporing plants such as Archaeopteris had secondary vascular tissue that produced wood and had formed forests of tall trees. Also by late Devonian, Elkinsia, an early seed fern, had evolved seeds.[9] Evolutionary innovation continued into the Carboniferous and is still ongoing today. Most plant groups were relatively unscathed by the Permo-Triassic extinction event, although the structures of communities changed. This may have set the scene for the appearance of the flowering plants in the Triassic (~200 million years ago), and their later diversification in the Cretaceous and Paleogene. The latest major group of plants to evolve were the grasses, which became important in the mid-Paleogene, from around 40 million years ago. The grasses, as well as many other groups, evolved new mechanisms of metabolism to survive the low CO2 and warm, dry conditions of the tropics over the last 10 million years.
extra note:
the fruit and it's special vitamin binder as the H2O molecular components of fruit that gives them
their special fluidity because they are oxygen saturated. Anti oxidants may have left the evolution
of higher plants by evolution of fruits in their place.Every fruit has water in them. This water may be
the remains of the higher plants(such as trees) and their pre ancient water without anti oxidants
and having more water and vascular systems that use more water than they need,so the excess
becomes photosynthesis.
The trick that trees use is to reverse their evolution by the illusion that they contain more water than they
need to use, so that the appearance of the evolution forwards has the true lineage or evidence of how
they change. This true and false representations of trees in their thousands of species and each one
has this problem of a pre ancestor tree that have reached their evolutionary limit wherever they appear,
the evolutionary drive is too large with some many variables of tree species. It may be so that water
as H2O was once a variable living organism that has over billions of years of evolution had more than
just the 4 states of water and that this was it's evolutionary limit occurred with billions of species that separated the
variability of smaller organisms of the oceans into their own sustenance and dependance on the oxygen
in the antioxidants ,just as trees give functions for other species of the ground and air. So it may be that
water has billions of variables of taste stimuli as related to each species on Earth and that this source of
the" test of the pudding " is the way that every species relates to the micro organisms in the oceans and
the water total. This then defines what we humans term as "water variables" beyond the sense stimuli
of that which represents some specific taste and the number of evolutionary species that use water to
mix and break down vegetative matter. Just as land based organisms and invertebrates use the water in
trees and vegetables to mix their own saliva and taste sense stimuli.
from Wikipedia:
An antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, leading to chain reactions that may damage cells. Antioxidants such as thiols or ascorbic acid (vitamin C) terminate these chain reactions. The term "antioxidant" is mainly used for two different groups of substances: industrial chemicals which are added to products to prevent oxidation, and natural chemicals found in foods and body tissue which are said to have beneficial health effects.
To balance the oxidative state, plants and animals maintain complex systems of overlapping antioxidants, such as glutathione and enzymes (e.g., catalase and superoxide dismutase) produced internally or the dietary antioxidants, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E.
Antioxidant dietary supplements do not improve health nor are they effective in preventing diseases as shown by randomized clinical trials including supplements of beta-carotene, vitamin A, and vitamin E singly or in different combinations having no effect on mortality rate[1][2] or cancer risk.[3][4] Supplementation with selenium or vitamin E does not reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.[5][6]Oxidative stress can be considered as either a cause or consequence of some diseases, an area of research stimulating drug development for antioxidant compounds for use as potential therapies.
Industrial antioxidants have diverse uses, such as food and cosmetics preservatives and inhibitors of rubber or gasoline deterioration.[7]
